Why the cedar plank?
Cedar Planks have been used in cooking Salmon since the Native Americans. Isn’t that cool? This technique has been used for centuries to add flavor in cooking fish. Some people may argue that and say that the Scandinavians invented this method, but I like to think that it was started right here on American soil. AND since we can’t prove who invented it first, I guess we can say it was a tie! Over time planking fish or salmon evolved into Native Americans building smoke houses or huts to obtain more of a smoked flavor. It is amazing how using cedar planks and smoking food has evolved over time. Now you can simply get on Amazon and order some cooking cedar planks and they will be here in 2 days. CRAZY!

Ingredients
- 4 6oz. Salmon Filets
- 1 stick of salted butter
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tomato, diced
- 10-15 basil leaves
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to 250ยบ. While your grill is preheating, soak your cedar plank in water. This prevents your cedar plank from burning. Mince your garlic and dice your tomato. Pat your salmon filets dry and salt and pepper your filets.
- In the microwave, melt your stick of butter in a medium sized (microwave safe) bowl.
- In the bowl with the melted butter, add in the garlic, tomato, and basil. Take your immersion blender and blend together these ingredients for your salmon.
- Once your grill is preheated, place your cedar plank on the grill alone for 5 minutes.
- Then, flip your cedar plank and place your salmon on top of your cedar plank. Dump and baste half of your butter mixture on the top of your salmon. Close the grill and cook for 10 minutes.
- Then, baste the other half of the butter mixture onto the salmon and continue cooking for 5-10 more minutes or until the center of the salmon looks flakey and light pink.
- ENJOY!
